Being stuck at home is tough for many people. We’re so used to meeting in person, driving to/from work, dining out, etc., that it can feel like there’s nothing to do.

In fact, there are a lot of free, fun things you can do right from your own home. In some cases, you might even make new friends! Here are some of our favorites based on interests.

Connect to Your Local Community

Nextdoor App

Nextdoor is a neighborhood-based social network app that connects users with their local community. Through the app, users can share information, news, events, and recommendations with neighbors, as well as receive updates from local organizations and businesses. Nextdoor also offers a platform for neighbors to buy, sell, and trade goods and services within their community. 

Also, check out Facebook groups for your local area and/or shared interests.

Alignable

Additionally, small business owners rely on networking and recommendations. Many belong to local networking groups that can’t meet in person all the time. Check out Alignable to network for free from the comfort of your own home.

Cooking Skills

Thankfully, everything from basic skills to kitchen chemistry and a croque madame can be found online. Try a cooking class or play with some new recipes. You might discover a new passion! 

Workout

There are endless online options for working out at home! Here are just a small few.

Orangetheory,  305 Fitness, and Katie Austin are all offering free workouts online! If yoga’s more your thing, check out CorePower Yoga and Yoga with Adriene.

Learn Anything You Can Imagine

Boredom is no fun. Learn something new instead of binge-watching shows you’re not actually interested in! Free classes for anything you can imagine are online. Give your brain a workout with Ivy League classes or other college-level courses. You can even earn a certificate in any of these 1000 areas.

If you’d rather exercise your creative side, Skillshare, Drawspace, and Craftsy all offer free online class options.

Broaden Your Horizons with Audio Books

Many audiobook services offer free periods to help alleviate boredom. Audible has a 30-day Free trial. Browse for your favorites or find something new. Consider trying a new book series with Apple Books.

eBooks

The Internet Archive and collaborating libraries hold over 36 million books and texts and have selected digitized books from their catalog that can be borrowed for free from anywhere in the world by one reader at a time. These publications are available in BookReader, PDF, and ePub formats. You can select your preferred format.  Internet Archive is a non-profit library of millions of free books, movies, software, music, websites, and more.
