The Junk Bowl is Your Friend

With a junk bowl or tray, you can easily contain those small items that don’t fit anywhere else. Limit yourself to one per room and use it to hold things such as stress balls, hair ties, tv remotes, or lotions. By placing these items in a bowl or tray that compliments your décor, you reduce the clutter while adding a piece of art to your space.

Harness the Power of Magnets

You can buy or make desktop containers and add magnets that will neatly hold small items like paperclips, pins, and tacks. That looks good too. Best of all, it makes it, so you don’t have all those small items spilling around loose in a drawer or all over your work surface. Use them on your fridge to hold little notebooks or other light items.

Furniture Can Double as Storage

Living room, bedroom, and den furniture can provide creative storage places. For example, many benches lift open to provide storage for flat items. Or get some beautiful baskets and strategically place them in your living space to create a visually appealing décor item and use the baskets to store everything from blankets to kid’s toys.

Take Advantage of Kitchen Wall Space

Get knives and other kitchen utensils off the counter. Instead, use a magnetic strip or row of hooks to hang everything from knives to stirring spoons and bottle openers. As a result, your kitchen will feel less cluttered, and you’ll have more space to work while still keeping everything you need easily accessible.

Figure Out Your Trouble Spots

We all have those places that tend to fill up with clutter more quickly than others. So figure out what yours are and commit to spending 10 to 15 minutes a day cleaning the clutter out of those one or two places – maybe start using a bowl (I love the style of a dough bowl) to keep them clear.

These tips are a great place to start.
