Local businesses encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth. If you have a steady income during this time of social distancing, Mother’s Day is a great time to support the local businesses in your area. Some local businesses are offering free shipping or pick-up services.

Another idea is to leave reviews and recommendations if you’re not able to support them financially at this time.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you click a link and purchase something that we have recommended. This commission comes at no additional cost to you, but will help us keep this site up and running and ad-free! Thank you for all the support. You’re under no obligation to purchase anything and should only do so if the product will suit your needs.

Supporting Local Businesses

If you’re unsure which businesses in your area are open, check Nextdoor, Google, and Alignable. Find one you know your Mom will love, then make a purchase and have it delivered directly to her.

Check out Etsy Local.
“After you search for something, click Custom under Shop location. Type in your city, town, state, or country and select your location from the dropdown. Your search results will refresh and only show you items from shops in the location you chose.” Etsy Help Center

You’ll save on shipping costs and support local artists and artisans.

Have lunch or dinner delivered. If your favorite local restaurant isn’t delivering, check Grubhub, DoordashPostmates, Caviar, and Seamless. They’re all offering no contact delivery options.

Bonus! Honey has discount codes for many of these services.

Another option is to purchase gift cards for Mom’s favorite stores, spa, etc., which she can use at a future date. Two of my favorite salons are Salon 25 and Cardinal Hair Salon.  With our state (New Hampshire), just re-opening salons have specific guidelines and limited services available, so gift cards are a win-win for your Mom and your salon!

You can pair any of these ideas with a digital card or photo album you make in Canva to make them more personal.

Other Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day While Social Distancing

You can watch a streaming video together, even if you don’t live nearby. The Netflix Party Chrome extension makes it easy. First, open the video you’d like to watch. Then, before you press play, click the Netflix Party button. Give the code to your Mom, and your videos will sync.

Give her virtual lessons in cooking, dancing, or many other subjects.

Introduce Mom to Zoom with simple how-to videos. Then, you can chat with her easily.
